William Monroe’s baseball team got a huge combination performance on the mound from Hunter Powell and Max Kinsey Friday night to help push the Dragons past Skyline 5-0.

Powell and Kinsey teamed up to throw seven innings of one-hit baseball, with Powell striking out six in four innings while Kinsey struck out seven in three innings. Kinsey gave up just one walk and the single hit. Powell didn’t allow a walk or hit through his four innings.

William Monroe jumped out to a 2-0 lead early and tacked on three more runs in the third inning. Mallory put the Dragons on the board first with an RBI double and James Neal followed it with an RBI single to plate Mallory. In the third, Kaleb Doshier reached on an error that allowed Blake Shifflett to score, then Doshier scored during a pickoff play that nabbed Powell at first. Hayden Gibson notched an RBI single to score Mallory.

Neal went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Dragons and knocked in a run. Doshier went 2-for-4, scored once and had an RBI. Mallory went 2-for-3, scored twice and knocked in the run on his double. Gibson went 2-for-3 and knocked in a run.

The Dragons will host Central Woodstock at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.
