Ridge Rolls

P.J. White broke free for a 64-yard touchdown, Max Morgan pounced on a fumble and then Tristan Allen hit Afana Offor for a 10-yard touchdown pass.

Just like that, Blue Ridge was off to the races.

Behind White’s explosive running and some savvy defense, Blue Ridge rolled 60-20 over Christchurch to continue the Barons’ sudden resurgence that has them back in playoff contention.

“Each year is different, sometimes it takes guys a lot longer to get things and rolling,” said Blue Ridge coach Orlando Patterson. “Hopefully we can keep it going.”

White rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns on just six carries as Christchurch simply couldn’t find an answer for his speed and shiftiness coming out of the backfield. Torian Pegram also ran well, with 80 yards and a touchdown on 13 touches.

Morgan’s fumble and an interception by Jordan Edelman where raced 53 yards  for a touchdown to make it 21-0 Barons over the Seahorses.

“(Edelman is) a very good football and he keeps getting better week by week as you can see,” Patterson said. “We work these guys to the limit to make sure we’re getting the best out of them.”

Allen, who went 5 for 8 for 135 yards and three touchdowns, followed Edelman’s score with a touchdown toss to Eric Davis to push the advantage to 28-0. A couple of defensive lapses by the Barons allowed Christchurch to pull back within 15 points at 27-12. But White broke off another long touchdown before the half and Offor hauled in his second touchdown to put Blue Ridge up 40-12 before the break.

With two straight wins under their belt, Blue Ridge enters a critical road trip the next two weeks. Wins over Trinity Episcopal and and Virginia Episcopal at their home fields will be critical to the Barons’ playoff hopes with VISAA Division I No. 1 Liberty Christian and rival STAB looming to close the season.
