Monroe keeps moving

William Monroe has a formula now.

They’ve got an identity, the product of sticking with the game plan even when everything isn’t going right like Monroe did earlier in the year when they dropped close games to Broadway and Charlottesville.

Manassas Park found out about it last night and fell 29-6 to the Dragons.

For Monroe, it’s all about a shutdown defense and a ground control run game with Cody Perkins grinding out the yards.

Throw in a big spark from the special teams and that’s an easy recipe for a win by Monroe.

Perkins rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns on 28 touches Friday and the defense took care of business, holding Manassas Park to just six points that didn’t come until the fourth quarter with Monroe in complete control.

The big spark on special teams came from Craig Jeffers’ big play where he scooped up an onsides kick attempt by the Panthers and raced 52 yards for a touchdown.

Now the Dragons sit at 6-3 and are headed into a monster Bull Run District clash with unbeaten Clarke County in Stanardsville. A win there would be a big boost for Monroe’s playoff standing in Region 3A East.

Lucky for the Dragons they’ve got an identity to lean on.
