Madison tops Mason in BR opener

For the fourth straight game, the Madison defense has made it easy. With the team’s 20-7 win in their Bull Run District opener against George Mason, the Mountaineer defenders allowed just their fourth touchdown in as many games.

Bradley Meadows led the way for Madison on Friday night with an outstanding 19-tackle performance as he and his defensive counterparts allowed a 15-yard touchdown pass in the middle of the second quarter, but nothing else.

The Mountaineers jumped out early on the Mustangs in the first quarter with Dustin Farmer found Rashad Bolden with a pass who then dodged through the Mason defense to take in for a 46-yard touchdown reception just 54 seconds into the game.

After 15 stagnant minutes, Mason answered with their lone score of the game, but five minutes after the Mustangs tied the game up at 7-7, the Mountaineers reclaimed the lead for good when Farmer hit receiver Travis Warren on a perfectly thrown fade into the end zone for a 20-yard strike.

Midway through the fourth quarter Madison padded it’s 7-point lead with six more points, this time on a 2-yard rushing touchdown from Farmer.

The sophomore quarterback finished the game 7 for 18 passing for 213 yards. Running back Ralph Yates had 78 yards on nine carries. Bolden and Warren each had three catches and finished with 127 and 66 yards respectively. Warren also came up with an interception on defense.

J.P Utz joined Meadows in the double-digit tackle department with his 10 wrap ups. Terez Terrell was close behind with nine stops.

The Mountaineers (6-1, 1-0) travel up to play a .500 team in Strasburg at 7:30 p.m.
