Blue Ridge blows past Blessed Sacrament

Blue Ridge’s Josh Colon set the tone for the game just seventeen seconds into the 55-14 rout of Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Saturday afternoon.

Catching the ball at the 25-yard-line, Colon sprinted to his left toward the sideline. After slamming into the back of a blocker he saw a hole to the right. Multiple Barons called his name, beckoning him to use their blocks. He cut right, then left, then right again before there were no Knights between him and six points. The Barons picked up right where they had left off in their 47-0 win against Covenant last week.

Blue Ridge’s offense got off to a a hot start, scoring 22 points in the first quarter. Seniors Jemeil King and Malik Johnson led the offense to 329 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns. King caught two touchdowns as a wide receiver and then ran for another as quarterback. Johnson however, could’ve had a big night had it not been for multiple fouls. Despite the restrictive flags, Johnson managed two touchdowns and 38 yards.

Blessed Sacrament kept the ball on the ground all day. Tanner Dobrucky had 117 yards on the ground and one touchdown off of 24 carries. Dobrucky split carries with Zane Buono and Colby Johnson leaving only three passing plays in the entire game.

Ultimately the Baron defense secured the game with four fumble recoveries and an interception by Juan Mareco.

The Barons face a struggling Christchurch (1-4) team next Saturday at home while the Knights of Blessed Sacrament Huguenot will make up last week’s postponed homecoming game against Brunswick Academy next Friday.
