Every program talks about wanting to play their best basketball as the postseason starts, but William Monore’s boys basketball team is living it out right now.

“In practice we’ve been having great energy and great chemistry and it shows up in the game,” said Monroe guard Tucker Shifflett.

The Dragons kept their roll going and earned a state tournament berth Tuesday night with a 60-45 win over Manassas Park in the Region 3B semifinals.

William Monroe will face Northwestern District foe Skyline in the region championship game after splitting two games with the Hawks during the regular season.

Tuesday, the Dragons wasted little time against Manassas Park, building a 29-15 lead by halftime led by some serious offensive balance with four players scoring in double figures. Brady Lam led the offense with 14 points and also posted a double double with 11 rebounds. Ja’Quis Carpenter stuffed the stat sheet with a double double of his own, with 13 points and 10 rebounds while also throwing in six assists for good measure. Troy Jones finished with 12 points, six assists and six boards and Shifflett rounded out the quartet of double figure scorers with 12 points and five assists.

Monroe will square off with Skyline Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Orange County High.
