Week Seven: Volleyball Poll

Week seven of our volleyball poll is out, and most of the poll held strong, though Louisa and Fluvanna County did move up in the rankings. The poll is tabulated from coaches throughout the area as well as votes from members of the local media.

Scrimmage Play’s Coaches and Media Poll

1. Western Albemarle

The Warriors had a monster week by surviving Fluvanna County last week, but the weekend before that might have said even more. A win over Grafton (state runnerup last year) and a five-game match with Cave Spring showed the Warriors could be a big threat in the postseason.

2. Albemarle

Last week the Patriots made it three sweeps in a row over Commonwealth opponents by beating Massaponax and Stafford. Big battle with Colonial Forge Tuesday looms.

3. Fluvanna County

It was a whirlwind week for the Flucos who had the unfortunate scheduling anomaly of playing its top two competitors in Jefferson District play, Western and Monticello, back-to-back. They bounced back from the narrow, inspiring loss against the Warriors to beat Monticello 3-1.

4. Monticello

The Mustangs fell to Fluvanna while struggling on the block, but they’ll get a shot to shake up the JD race this Thursday again when they take on Western Albemarle.

5. William Monroe

The Dragons beat CHS and Louisa County to pick up critical Jefferson District wins last week.

6. Madison County

The Mountaineers went 1-1 last week, beating Manassas Park and falling to Strasburg.

7. Covenant (tied)

Eagles set to get an interesting test next Monday against Monticello High.

7. Nelson County (tied)

Two-straight road sweeps in Dogwood play help the Governors to hang tight in the poll.

9. Louisa County

A tough turn in the schedule left the Lions winless last week, but they did manage to take Monroe to the brink, falling 3-2.

10. Orange County

The winless Hornets hang onto the bottom spot in the poll but they’re going to need to knock off Louisa or Monroe most likely this week to stay in the top 10.
