Success Story: Jeremy Haney

For four seasons Jeremy Haney lettered for Fork Union’s highly-touted cross country and track and field teams. A two-time state champion in the 1,600 meter run, he led both of those teams to VISAA Division 1 state titles in both his junior and senior years, earning an All-American nodfor his work on the track.

With that resume, it was easy for Navy, the same school his uncle Mark Haney attended, to offer the former Blue Devil a spot on its cross country team and Haney has not disappointed. Now a senior for the Midshipmen, Haney’s running career in Annapolis has been every bit as impressive.

Haney got started for the Midshipmen as a freshman by participating in Navy’s last four races and scoring in his last two races and earning three top-25 finishes to garner the Patriot League rookie of the year award. Next season, Haney jumped into a larger role, competing in seven races and putting together two top-10 times as Navy’s consistent fifth scoring runner. As a junior, Haney finished 13th at the Patriot League Championship, earning second team All-Conference honors. The ocean engineering major also earned accolades for his work in the class room in 2010, picking up a nod on the PL’s academic honor roll.

This past October, Haney and his Naval Acadmey teammates worked together to capture a Patriot League Championship, and they finished with 12 of the top 52 scores. The following week, the Midshipmen finished 5th overall at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship.

With the way it’s gone for Haney the last eight years, there’s little doubt he’ll continue to find success.
