Albemarle’s boys lacrosse team got things going Monday night with a season opening 9-8 victory over Patrick Henry-Roanoke.

The Patriots leapt out to a 7-0 lead capped by a Justin Moran goal, late in the second quarter. Moran finished with three goals and an assist on the night.

From that point on, Albemarle had to withstand a big rally, with Patrick Henry scoring a pair of goals before the half and then eventually tying the game at 8-8 in the fourth quarter. With 2:50 to play though, Moran scored his final goal off an Ian Davis assist, his third of the night. The Patriots’ defense held on after that as Albemarle maintained that one-goal advantage and secured the win.

Davis finished with a pair of goals to go with those three assists. Andrew Hogg, Nicholas Chisholm, Ethan Blundin and Lucas Roberts scored a goal each. Justin Peck checked in with a pair of assists with Cameron Green also adding an assist.

Albemarle goalie Kyle Seago posted 13 saves on the night.

Sam Boxley, Ben Vance and Christian Blackwell finished with two goals each for Patrick Henry.

Albemarle is slated to travel to Washington and Lee for a game against C. Milton Wright, a squad from Maryland.
