STAB girls return home, smash Nansemond Suffolk

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s girls basketball team waited a long time to play a home basketball game.

The last time they took the floor at the Conway Convocation Center was a state quarterfinal win over Flint Hill in late February of 2020 in a season where the Saints lost just one time all year at home.

Based on a 69-32 blowout win over Nansemond Suffolk Academy Tuesday night, the Saints didn’t lose their comfort level playing at home during the long layoff.

Kymora Johnson poured in 24 points to lead the Saints while Sabrina Lewis scored 23 points for the Saints. Johnson and Lewis have been on an offensive tear to open the season, with Johnson averaging 26.8 points per game while Lewis is scoring at a clip of 14.3 points per game.

Lewis was red-hot early and scored 15 of her points in the first quarter as STAB built a 23-16 lead. The Saints’ defense got going in the second quarter and limited NSA to just seven points in the frame, pushing the STAB lead to 36-23 at the break, but the real suffocation set in during the third. That’s when STAB held NSA to just two points and scored 19 to turn the game into a rout.

Ruby Adkins got going in a big way too with 10 points for the Saints.

STAB now hits the road for tournaments during the rest of the month before returning home January 7th against Virginia Episcopal.
