Saints stroll

St. Anne’s-Belfield coach Mary Blake delivered a pretty simple message to her team before the Saints’ Tuesday afternoon matchup with crosstown rival Covenant. No strategy, no adjustments.

“I told the kids that we just need to go out, have fun and play the game we all love,” Blake said. “Truly, that’s all I told them to do.”

The Saints (12-3, ranked No. 5 in VISAA Division I) did that, putting together a 21-7 blowout win over the Eagles to get back on track after a 14-4 loss to Collegiate Monday.

Julia Haney and Lila Satterfield each had nine-point outings, with Haney notching eight goals and an assist while Satterfield scored six goals and dished out three assists. The Saints built a 15-5 lead by halftime and cruised from there. Annie Cory had a big day with two goals and two assists while Virginia Speidel finished with two goals and an assist.

Audrey Schreck had a goal and an assist while Elizabeth Elder registered two assists.

Three Covenant players scored twice each with Jenna Clarke, Rachel Rapp and Charlotte Delany with two goals. Rapp also had an assist for the Eagles.

Covenant is currently ranked No. 2 in the VISAA’s Division 2 and they’ll try and bounce back Thursday on the road against seventh-ranked Fredericksburg Academy. St. Anne’s will host Potomac at new Saturday.
