Orange County needed to bounce back after struggling Saturday on the road against Albemarle. It took the Hornets a while but they eventually managed to push ahead of Monticello and hold on for a 75-73 win over the Mustangs.

Monticello jumped out to a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Orange cut into that lead and trailed just 32-30 at halftime. The Mustangs were clinging to a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

J.J. MacDonald and Chase Rollins scored seven and six points respectively in the final quarter, helping spark Orange to 24 points down the stretch while they held Monticello to 21 and secured the win.

MacDonald finished with 24 points for the game to lead the Hornets while Rollins had 23 points. Sheldon Robinson and Diyon Jasper finished with seven each.

Orange overcame a sterling performance from Monticello’s Malachi Christmas who poured in 27 points, going 7-for-8 at the free throw line. Ben Ritterband finished with 13 and Ben Geise knocked down four 3-pointers to notch 12 points. Josh Walker chipped in 10.

Monticello will try and bounce back against Turner Ashby at home Wednesday night. Orange will travel to take on Goochland Friday night.
