Light It Up: Wagner’s shooting pushes STAB girls past Collegiate

Matching up with St. Anne’s-Belfield girls basketball is a game of pick-your-poison.

Maybe you can bottle up one or two of the Saints’ five players who average more than eight points per game and who are all capable of pouring in 20 at any given time, but there aren’t many teams who can mark all five.

Tuesday night, Olivia Wagner took a turn carrying the load for the Saints (17-1), shooting a scorching 8-for-9 from the field while ringing up 21 points in an 88-51 dismantling of Collegiate in the League of Independent Schools semifinals.

Wagner went 5-for-5 from beyond the arc in that shooting clinic and threw in five assists and five steals for good measure. Maddie Rice scored 15 points and barely missed a double double with nine rebounds.

Kymora Johnson got slowed down in  scoring more than usual with eight points but she found a bunch of other ways to contribute with eight boards, five assists, three steals and just two turnovers.

Sophie Gangemi scored nine points and Ruby Adkins finished with eight. Sabrina Lewis had four rebounds and two steals.

The Saints will face off with Saint Gertrude Thursday in the LIS championship game after the Gators beat St. Catherine’s 66-48.
