Over the weekend three Central Virginia teams were crowned state champions making it a highly successful fall across the board. Scrimmage Play was there to witness it all.

First on Friday night the St. Anne’s-Belfield football team topped Potomac to earn its sixth VISAA Division 2 championship, its third in five years.

On Saturday afternoon the Nelson County volleyball team made the most of its first ever appearance in the Group A Division 1 championship. Vicki Crawford has coached the Governors for 29 years and she now has her state title as her team topped a highly regarded and undefeated Mathews team in four games.

Just a few hours later, the Fork Union football team forced its third straight turnover in the redzone to keep a surging Collegiate squad at bay. The Blue Devils were the fourth and final seed to qualify for the VISAA Division 1 tournament, but left Richmond as champions for the eighth time.
