Getting it Rolling: Albemarle boys ride explosive offense to win over Fluvanna

Albemarle’s boys basketball team is picking up steam and with the offense building off its win over Orange County, the Patriots put up some big time numbers and rolled 91-74 over Fluvanna County.

Albemarle was lighting it up right out of the gate with four 3-pointers in the first quarter from three different players as Jason Breen (twice), Carter Wesson and Ben Wesson all connected from deep. Carter Wesson kept rolling in the second quarter with two more threes and a 4-for-4 frame at the line to help push the Patriots’ lead to 40-27 at the break. Wesson finished with 24 points on the night and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the line.

In the second half, La’mari Parler went to work, scoring 14 of his 20 points on the night after the break. Parler’s attacking style when he puts the ball on the floor has added a different dimension to the Albemarle offense this season.

Christian Humes also had a huge second half, scoring 13 of his 17 points in the third and fourth. Breen finished with 15 points while TaeVeon Wilson had eight.

Humes’ offensive efforts at point guard helped offset a big offensive night for Fluvanna senior guard Kobe Edmonds who poured in 25 points. Bobby Gardner finished with 20 for the Flucos and Blaise Silverman had nine.

Both teams face a quick turnaround Tuesday night when the Flucos travel to take on Charlottesville while Albemarle hits the road to take on Goochland.
