After 37 years, more than 500 victories and countless players and championships, Fluvanna County boys basketball coach Munro Rateau is stepping down.

Fluvanna County will hold a formal announcement Thursday March 31 at 2:30 in the school’s cafeteria and athletic director Scott Morris is inviting past players out for the event.

Rateau’s more than 500 wins put him in the top five of all-time coaching victories in the state of Virginia. He won back-to-back state championships in 1989 and 1990 and his squads appeared in four state title games from 1988 to 1992.

Rateau was the Scrimmage Play boys basketball coach of the year as recently as 2014, which is  the year he surpassed 500 career wins.
