Eagles take down Carlisle

Behind a shutout effort led by goalie Kelsey Rund, Covenant punched its to ticket to the VISSA state final, winning 2-0 over Carlisle.

The win avenged Covenant’s loss in the state final last year to Carlisle.

The No. 1-seeded Eagles got a pair of goals from Taylor Brown to advance to the championship, with the junior sparking an attacking Covenant offense. Covenant’s midfielders pushed the ball well into the offensive zone by taking advantage of their speed on turf, giving Brown the chance to come up with the two goals.

Covenant will now face Cape Henry, a perennial stick-sport power from Virginia Beach. According to the Virginian-Pilot in Virginia Beach, he Dolphins knocked off Covenant’s nemesis, Fredericksburg Academy on a goal by eight-grader Erin Scherrer early in the second half that held up.
