Covenant beats Hargrave, earns spot in VIC final

Covenant’s baseball team needed two days and two sites to do it, but the top-seeded Eagles closed out a 9-4 VIC semifinal victory Friday evening to earn a spot in the VIC final against No. 2 Miller, who edged Fishburne 2-0 Friday at home.

The clash between the Eagles and Tigers started Thursday before a large storm cell wiped the game out with Hargrave up 2-0. Covenant managed to rally once the game got going again Friday at 4:30 at Virginia Episcopal School.

Covenant’s Jake Haney picked up the win on the mound, relieving Matt Shobe who started the contest Thursday. Haney went 4.2 innings and struck out 10. On offense, the Eagles scratched out their nine runs on just six hits as Hargrave starter Mark Loving pitched well early in the Thursday portion of the game.

Will Moore led the way offensively with two hits including a double and two RBI while Matt Shobe and Trent Miller each had doubles.

Covenant (22-7) will take on VIC rival Miller in the conference title game Saturday in Stuarts Draft.
