Covenant AD Brooks Berry headed to FUMA as athletic director

Covenant Athletic Director Brooks Berry is headed back to Fork Union, this time as the FUMA’s athletic director.

I wouldn’t leave Covenant for just any job,” Berry said in a press release issued by Covenant. “Fork Union is a school that is very special to me because it shaped and molded my ability to lead athletics in a way that honors God.”

For the last three years, Berry has served as Covenant’s athletic director after a stint as FUMA’s postgraduate basketball coach and the Director of Financial Aid. Berry has deep ties to Fork Union where he played a year of postgraduate basketball before heading to West Virginia where Berry was an Academic All-Big East selection. He also married legendary FUMA postgraduate basketball coach Fletcher Arritt’s daughter Amy Arritt.

Berry’s announcement comes just a day after FUMA announced Mike Hooper as the school’s new head football coach. Berry takes over for the retiring Micky Sullivan, who announced his retirement back in December.

It also creates a vacancy for Covenant’s boys basketball head coach, which Berry took over last season after Travis Johnson left for the Regents School.

“I will miss Brooks’ leadership, his passion for sports, and his desire to see every athlete meet their potential,” said Covenant Headmaster George Sanker in the Covenant release.
