Maya Winterhoff has been rewriting the Albemarle volleyball record books all season, breaking the career mark for blocks and kills during this campaign.

She pushed that career kills mark a step further Tuesday night in Albemarle’s 3-0 sweep of Goochland by reaching her 1,000th career kill.

“Maya has done so much for this program over the past four years,” said Albemarle coach Lance Rogers. “I think it’s poetic and fitting that she cracked this milestone on her senior night.”

Winterhoff had 19 kills in the victory, reaching 1,000 on her fourth kill of the night. Reaching 1,000 career kills puts Winterhoff in the conversation of the most productive hitters in state history.

Winterhoff chipped in 14 digs and three blocks in the efficient win. The Patriots also got solid performances from Weining Ding who had six kills and 12 digs against the Bulldogs and C.C. Smith who cranked out 28 assists. Grace Sembrowich finished with 13 digs to round out an impressive defensive performance by the Patriots. Sophia Bombardieri had four aces.

The Patriots travel to take on Louisa Thursday night while the Bulldogs will look to bounce back against the Lions Wednesday.
