Albemarle High’s field hockey squad inched a little closer to .500 Monday night with a critical 2-1 Jefferson District win over Monticello.

The victory was the Patriots’ second win in a row and pushed Albemarle to 5-6 overall and 5-2 in Jefferson.

Goals from juniors Katelin Hunt and Morgan Stilley propelled the Patriots as Albemarle peppered Monticello with 20 shots while drawing nine corners on the night. That flurry of chances helped limit Monticello’s own opportunities as the Mustangs managed just five shots, one of which found the back of the goal when Evie Maxwell scored in the first half.

Junior Logan Wood stood tall in the cage for Albemarle including a scoreless second half that helped get the Patriots over the top.

Albemarle will host Orange County Tuesday night before making the short journey to Charlottesville to face the Black Knights Thursday. The Mustangs will take on Louisa Wednesday night and play Charlottesville next Monday.
