Albemarle coasts into Northwest semifinals

The Albemarle girls tennis team (18-1) defeated Patrick Henry-Roanoke 5-0 in the Northwest Region quarterfinals on Tuesday.  The match was moved inside to the Boar’s Head Sports Club in anticipation of stormy weather throughout Central Virginia, but it didn’t faze Albemarle’s lineup in the least.

Albemarle jumped all over Patrick Henry-Roanoke from the Western Valley District for the second year in a row and pulled a singles sweep 5-0 to advance to tomorrow’s Northwest Region semifinals.  Albemarle’s top six made short work of Patrick Henry, with Radford bound Megan Napolitano leading the way at No. 1. She was first off the court with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, knocking off Patrick Henry’s  Allison Link.

“This time of year is pretty crazy for the kids at school and for them to set all that aside and come out and play important matches and have fun says a lot,” said Albemarle coach Rich Lindsay. “Having an experienced team helps a ton.”

Albemarle will face the Garfield/Loudoun Valley winner at Boar’s Head Wednesday at 11 a.m. for the right to go to the Group AAA tournament.
