In Group 2A track several athletes and relay teams put together solid performances led by a group from Goochland.

The Bulldogs’ boys 4×800 squad stormed its way to a state title with a time of 8:13.96, breaking the school’s own Group 2A state meet record set last year. Carter Palen, Larry Minor,Jr., Brandon Pleasants and Austin Bruce combined for the new record and the win. Palen was the lone newcomer, replacing graduate Reid Caudill in the lineup.

Bruce finished 12th in the 1600 as well.

Other top performances by locals in the Group 2A meet included Nelson County’s Nicole Pouliot taking fourth in the high jump and the Governors’ Maegan Brown taking fifth in the shotput. Madelyn Cooper grabbed third for Nelson in the pole vault, just ahead of Treshawnda Crawford’s sixth-place outing.

Buckingham’s boys 4×100 team took eighth while Madison’s Dre Twyman finished 18th in the 300 hurdles. Goochland’s Dorothy Clore was 10th in the 100 and the Bulldogs’ girls 4×400 squad finished ninth. Nelson’s Devante Ellis-Rose was 13th in the triple jump.
