Western girls tennis sweeps Orange County

Western Albemarle’s girls tennis team shuffled the lineup with Lauren Kearns stepping into the No. 1 spot and shut out Orange County 9-0 Thursday night.

Kearns rallied for a 10-8 win against Orange’s Molly Gudka.

“Lauren had a great comeback from 1-4 at the No. 1 singles position, and Cate (Roesch) and Vivian (Lin) pulled out an exciting 11-9 doubles,” said Western coach Ellen Markowitz. “In addition, I really liked the way both of our other doubles played, with Sadie and Stephanie setting each other up nicely and finishing points strongly with pinpoint volleys and overheads, and Lauren and Savannah being aggressive at the net.”

Western will take on Charlottesville Friday on the road as Jefferson District play continues. The Warriors are now 11-0 on the year.
