Western Albemarle’s girls lacrosse team had to take its focus up a notch Tuesday as the Warriors faced off against Blacksburg.
The Warriors managed to do just that, with the Warriors top of the lineup carrying the water in singles before closing it out in doubles for a 5-2 victory in the Region 3A West semifinals. The victory secured a spot in the region championship as well as a spot in the state tournament for the Warriors.
“Blacksburg really pushed us and gave us everything they had,” said Western coach Ellen Markowitz. “We knew they would be strong, especially at 4, 5, and 6, and they definitely delivered. We were pleased to be up 4-2 after singles.”
They’ll face Cave Spring Thursday in the region title game.
