Western girls soccer knocks off Orange

Western Albemarle’s girls soccer squad put together a strong first half and did enough in the second to put away Orange County 5-2 Thursday night.

The Warriors’ took control of the game with a pair of first half goals to build a 2-0 lead against the Hornets before scoring three more after the break. Eleri Hayden finished with two goals while Emma Ratcliffe, Sarah Watkins and Erin Clark each had a goal.

Hayden and Ratcliffe also had an assist a piece.

Western held a huge advantage in shots as they took 27 to Orange’s four.

Jamie Barr made those scant opportunities count for the Hornets with two goals while Rebecca Harvey kept the Hornets alive with 14 saves in goal.

Western hits the road to take on Louisa County Friday at 7 p.m. while Orange hosts Albemarle the same night.
