Western girls soccer drops Waynesboro

Augusta Peds

The Western Albemarle girls soccer squad was dominating possession during the first half, unleashing an array of shots against Waynesboro. But the Warriors couldn’t break through.

No reason to worry. Two minutes into the second half, Shannon Moore scored off a Langlee King cross and Western blew the game open from there, scoring six times after the break for a 6-0 win over the Little Giants in the Conference 29 quarterfinals.

The Warriors had 17 first half shots while Waynesboro packed it in and couldn’t muster as much as a single chance.

The beat went on in the second half as Western took 11 shots, pouring in goals on six of them. Moore assists on two of them immediately after her early second half tally. Sarah Watkins and Emma Ratcliffe scored off those two Moore helpers. Elizabeth Fabiano and Nichole Heon scored the last two goals of the game, with Genna Repich assisting on Fabiano’s goal.

The Warriors advance to face Broadway Tuesday in the Conference 29 semifinals, held at Monticello High School.
