Western girls lacrosse rolls to third straight win

The Western Albemarle girls lacrosse team rolled to its third straight Jefferson District win with its 14-3 victory over Rockbridge.

After taking a 4-goal lead going into the second half, the Warriors throttled the Wildcats out of the break with five goals in the first five minutes. Six different Western players scored while 10 total players picked up a point.

Peyton Brandy led Western with an all-around game, collecting seven ground balls, a hat trick and an assist. Ellen Shaffrey won 14 draws, had six ground balls and five goals. Anna Liebowitz had a trio of goals and assists. Goalkeeper Christine Fortner had six saves, six clears and a pair of interceptions.

Western (3-0) travels to Charlottesville on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
