Nearly everyone in the area felt like Western Albemarle would be in control of the Jefferson District girls race from the beginning. The Warriors never disappointed.
Western capped a perfect district season with a convincing 51-26 win against Goochland on Tuesday. The Warriors finished 14-0 in league play to win the Jefferson District regular season championship.
The team’s seniors had strong performances on senior night out in Crozet against the Bulldogs. Carolyn Schneller had 19 points and 7 rebounds; Ellen Shaffrey had 10 points, 13 rebounds, and three steals; Raven Ward had eight points, five rebounds and two steals; Kelsey Swanson had five points, seven assists, and two steals; Christine Fortner had seven rebounds.
The Warriors host the same Goochland squad on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Jefferson District tournament quarterfinals.
