Western boys tennis advances past Heritage

Western Albemarle’s boys tennis team faced an elimination game Tuesday night and had to move it inside to the Boar’s Head due to weather. But neither of those factors could derail the Warriors who rolled past Heritage-Lynchburg 5-0 to advance in the Region 3A West tournament.

Tucker Ottoway rolled 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 for the Warriors while Deven Barkley ripped off a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. Joe Squillace, Scott Grover and Andrew Ern all also picked up titles, with Ern winning 6-1, 6-1.

Western will now face Blacksburg in the region semifinals. The Warriors will host the Bruins Wednesday in a match with a state tournament berth on the line.
