Western Albemarle, Monticello deadlock in boys soccer

In a match that could have potentially huge consequences in the Jefferson District race, the Monticello and Western Albemarle boys soccer teams battled to a 0-0 tie Monday night. It is the ninth time this season that Western Albemarle goalie Kai Shin and the Warrior defense kept the opponent scoreless, but Monticello keeper Milton Ortiz and the Mustang defenders were equally effective, shutting down the Warrior offense through regulation and two overtimes.

Ortiz came up with seven saves while Shin managed six shots. Western held a 13-7 advantage on shots.

The tie leaves Fluvanna (11-0-2, 9-0-2 JD) in sole possession of first place following their 8-1 thumping of Goochland last night. The Warriors (10-0-4,

9-0-3 Jefferson) tackle William Monroe at home this Thursday. Fluvanna will travel to third place Charlottesville on Wednesday and then to Orange on Thursday.
