Western Albemarle girls pick up critical win over Louisa

The Western Albemarle girls’ basketball team picked up a 58-33 road win at Louisa County on Tuesday night as a balanced team effort saw six players score at least five points and five players grab at least four rebounds.

Against the Lions, Ellen Shaffrey posted another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds; she also added three steals and a pair of assists. In the post, Carolyn Schneller recorded nine points and seven rebounds while Raven Ward had six points and four rebounds. Mady Baker chipped in seven points and four steals for the Warriors. Western point guard Kelsey Swanson continued her steady play with six points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

For Louisa County, Nikki Critzer led the way with seven points while Natasha Taylor added six. Raven Robinson and Torey Crosby each had five points. The Lions have a match-up with Spotsylvania on the schedule for tonight; they dropped a road game to Spotsy earlier this season, 51-34.

The Warriors are 12-5 overall and 8-2 in the Jefferson District with a league road game at Monticello on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
