Tandem girls soccer picks up huge win

Tandem Friends’ girls soccer program has won two-straight state titles in the VISAA’s Division II.

Saturday morning they let the rest of Central Virginia know just how good the Badgers are, knocking off Charlottesville High’s girls soccer team, a perennial area powerhouse 1-0.

Tandem withstood a barrage of 18 shots from the Black Knights with newly-minted keeper Abby Tinsley coming up with six saves on the morning. The Badgers broke through in the second half when Bri Carel finished home a pass from Gillian Gardiner. The goal stood up as the Badgers held on for the win.

Tandem managed just seven shots throughout, but put home the one that counted.

Both teams will face another tough test in their next game as Charlottesville hosts Collegiate Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Tandem battles St. Anne’s-Belfield after a long break in action on April 3.
