STAB softball cruises past Covenant

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s softball team made quick work of Covenant Monday afternoon in the LIS tournament. The Saints, seeded third in the bracket, rolled 13-0 over the Eagles with a big-time performance at the plate from several hitters and a commanding performance from Megan Booth in the circle.

Booth struck out five in five innings but smartly leaned on her defense to take care of business. The Saints limited Covenant to just three total baserunners on just two hits as Booth took control early.

At the plate, Carter Morris went 3-for-4 with a monster second inning triple to centerfield and scored a pair of runs for the Saints. Aliyah Carr went 3-for-4 as well with a steal while catcher Gracie Chandler went 3-for-3 and scored twice.

Covenant pitcher Charlotte Hendrix struck out eight STAB batters in four innings, but a rash of errors and misplayed balls helped the Saints blow the game open. The Saints scored five runs in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead, then tacked on seven more in the third.

STAB will play St. Gertrude, the No. 2 seed, Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the LIS tourney as they continue to try and wedge their way into the state tournament field. Gertrude beat St. Catherine’s 20-6 in the opening round of the tournament. The loss ends Covenant’s season.
