STAB rolls past Christchurch on the road

St. Anne’s Belfield left Christchurch with a resounding 47-17 victory Sunday afternoon in a game that was supposed to be played Saturday but was delayed by weather.

The Saints improved to 2-0 behind the arm of senior quarterback Patrick Blake and the legs of sophomore running back Javon Johnson.

In only four completions, Blake threw for three touchdowns and 136 yards against the Seahorses. On the ground, Johnson led the running game with 84 yards and two touchdowns. STAB had three ball carriers with 20 or more yards on the ground, all of which averaged over nine yards per carry as the Saints look to spread the load.

On the other side of the ball the Saints shut down the passing game with three interceptions, allowing Christchurch only 42 passing yards. Senior defensive back Logan Lucas had two interceptions on the night, taking one back for a touchdown halfway through the second quarter. Just over a minute later senior lineman Joe Upchurch joined Lucas with a pick-six to make it 33-3 to the Saints.

Christchurch’s sophomore running back Jarius Monroe carried the Seahorses with 136 yards and two touchdowns.

The Seahorses (1-1) will look to rebound on the road against North Cross on Sept. 19.

Having won their first two away games a combined 90-31, St. Anne’s Belfield (2-0) hopes to carry their momentum into their home opener against St. Christopher on Sept. 18.
