STAB, Blue Ridge lacrosse squads each go 2-0 in North Carolina

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s boys lacrosse team is already picking up steam.

STAB jumped out to a 2-0 record on the year with a fast start at the Brine King of Spring event in North Carolina this weekend.

The Saints dropped Lovett School out of Atlanta 15-9 in their season opener with Delaware commitment Ian Robertson leading the way with a five-goal outing. He got some help from fellow senior Dylan Park who tallied four goals and an assist.

Conor Healy also notched a hat trick and chipped in an assist while Brent Evans had a goal and two assists  and Miles Davis dished out three helpers.

Defensively, Branford Rogers led the way with six ground balls and along with Shane Palmateer held Lovett in check.

In the second game, Rogers and Palmateer were back at it, helping hold St. Mark’s out of Dallas nearly scoreless in a 6-1 victory for the Saints. Robertson poured in three goals while Park finished with a goal and an assist.

Colin Bressan looked solid in his first two starts in the cage for STAB as the junior keeper came up with 14 saves. Charles Sipe had a solid two games too, winning 70 percent of his faceoffs against Lovett and eight of 11 against St. Mark’s.

STAB takes on Delbarton School in a scrimmage Wednesday at home before facing its first VISAA Division I opponent with a monster of a game against St. Stephen’s-St. Agnes Friday night.

Blue Ridge also competed at the King of Spring and won 12-7 over Charlotte Latin on day one and 8-5 over R.J. Reynolds of Winston Salem, N.C. on day two. In the Latin matchup, Tanner Fisher exploded for five goals while Chase Fraser notched four and an assist. Tyler Pace chipped in a trio of assists.

According to ESPNHS.com, at least three other Division I schools from Virginia made the trek down with Christchurch falling 15-14 to Providence Day School located in Charlotte, N.C. and Norfolk Academy trouncing Charlotte Country Day 11-2 on day one. David Best led Norfolk Academy with five goals. St. Christopher’s got in on the action on day two with a 7-2 win over Ravenscroft out of Raleigh while Norfolk Academy rolled past Providence Day 9-5. Christchurch played again on day three, falling 15-14 again, this time at the hands of Highland Park, another Texas school.
