STAB baseball beats Fork Union

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s baseball team built some steam Tuesday afternoon to start the final week of the regular season, pushing past Fork Union for 10-2 victory on the road.

Senior catcher Jake Allen led the offensive assault for the Saints with a 4-for-5 outing that included 3 RBI. Nic Kent also got into a groove with two doubles and 2 RBI on the day. Kent also closed the game on the mound with a flawless seventh inning.

Bobby Nicholson locked down the Blue Devils for the majority of the game, throwing six solid innings where he scattered just three hits, surrendered just one earned run and struck out three while walking just three. The earned run came on a Grant Bodison home run. Adam Hackenberg and Julius Puryear had the Blue Devils’ only other hits, with Zach Pace notching the other RBI.

Jacob Grabeel pitched well for three innings to hold STAB scoreless, but the Saints put together a monster fourth inning. STAB exploded for six runs in that frame to take command of a five-run lead. The Saints tacked on two mores in both the sixth and seventh.

STAB will take the field again Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the rematch with Fork Union at St. Anne’s. Fork Union will take on Benedictine Thursday before the Friday clash.
