Spring Roundup 3.19.16: STAB and Miller baseball, Albemarle boys soccer win

With an eight-inning walk-off RBI from Alex Markopoulos, St. Anne’s-Belfield edged out Fishburne 4-3 Friday night in the Saints’ home opener.

Markopoulos also threw five innings for the Saints and struck out four while surrendering just two walks and scattering eight hits. He settled in after a three-run first inning by Fishburne and clamped down on the Caissons the rest of the way.

Will Define finished with two RBIs on a 1-for-3 night.

The Saints pulled off the victory despite registering just two hits and walking six times. Jalen Harrison stole a pair of bases on the night and scored one run. Nic Kent walked twice and scored once from the leadoff spot.

Kent finished the game on the mound, striking out six in three innings of no-hit baseball.

 

Miller baseball rallies to pick up win

Miller baseball beat the Homeplate Citadels, a homeschool baseball team out of Peachtree City, Georgia Friday, rallying from 5-0 to pick up a 7-6 victory.

Tanner Morris went 3-for-4 with four RBI for the Mavericks while Ethan Murray knocked in a pair of runs.

 

Albemarle boys soccer drops Atlee

Albemarle’s boys soccer team picked up a 4-0 victory over Atlee Friday night.

A couple of days after finishing four goals against Charlottesville, Brendan Moyers switched gears and set the table for his teammates, notching three assists.

Daniel Starr took the scoring lead with two goals while Griffin Coffey and Eliya Budurgure each had a goal.

Jake Gelnovatch had four saves in goal and also finished with an assist of his own.

 

Albemarle baseball falls to Atlee

The Albemarle baseball team dropped a 12-3 game to Atlee Friday night.

Atlee’s J.T. Fitzpatrick and Zach Beach powered the Raiders’ victory with Fitzpatrick piling up three hits while Beach hit a home run.

Nathan Toney was strong at the plate with a home run and a double while Ryan Porter singled twice.

The Patriots will look to bounce back against Charlottesville Tuesday at home.

 

Goochland girls tennis beats Rappahannock

Goochland’s girls tennis team beat Rappahannock 5-4 to snag the Bulldogs’ first win of the year.
