Spring Girls Roundup 4.22.15: Monticello softball, others pick up solid wins

Monticello’s softball team jumped out to a sizable lead early and held off a Fluvanna squad that kept chipping away as the Mustangs beat the Flucos 8-5.
Monticello’s Heather Morris led the Mustangs’ offense with three hits and four RBI. The Mustangs led 6-0 after two innings in part because of Morris’ work at the plate.
Emily Clifford posted a complete game victory in the circle for Monticello, throwing seven innings and striking out four.
Kaitlin Presley had a pair of hits and three RBI for the Flucos.
Western girls lacrosse drops Fluvanna
Western Albemarle’s girls lacrosse team quickly built an eight-goal lead in the first half and the Warriors didn’t look back Tuesday night, rolling to an 18-4 victory over Fluvanna County.
Sammie Magargee led the Warriors’ offense with three goals and came up with a trio of draw controls as well. Hanna Schuler, Ellie Allen, Hannah Curry, Kate Snyder and Audrey Russell all chipped in two goals each to handle the bulk of the offense for the Warriors. Schuler and Snyder also notched an assist while Russell managed three draw controls.
Hannah Plantz had a goal and four draw controls.
Tori McDonald and Courtney Ott each scored twice for Fluvanna.
Western moved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in district play with the victory.
Albemarle girls tennis beats Powhatan
Albemarle’s girls tennis team bounced back from a loss to Western Albemarle Tuesday, beating Powhatan 7-2 with a sweep of singles.
It was a solid start to a challenging stretch that Albemarle is entering with six matches in six days.
Albemarle improves to 5-1 on the season and travels to take on E.C. Glass before hosting Louisa County on Thursday.

Western’s girls tennis team rolled through Charlottesville’s squad Tuesday night, with four singles players sweeping their matches 10-0 while the Warriors won every other match 10-2 or 10-1.
The win pushes the Warriors to 8-0 on the year. They’ll play Fluvanna next Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Western.
