Spring Girls Roundup 3.31.15: Western soccer, Albemarle tennis and Western tennis cruise to wins

Western Albemarle’s girls soccer team made quick work of Louisa County Monday night, rolling 12-0 over the Lions.

A quartet of freshmen scored for the young but talented Warriors in the first half as Jane Romness, Caitlin Harvey, Elizabeth Fabiano and Shannon Moore each notched goals, with Moore scoring twice before the break. Harvey created a number of chances in addition to her own goal and had three assists in the first half.

Genna Repich, a junior, also scored to put the Warriors up 6-0 at the half, with the Warriors shooting 25 times in that half.

Fabiano scored twice more in the second half to wrap up a hat trick, as did Romness. Emma Ratcliffe assisted on a second goal by Harvey, who finished with two goals and three assists.

Albemarle girls tennis coasts to 9-0 win

Albemarle’s girls tennis team has balance and it showed in the Patriots’ 9-0 win over Charlottesville Monday.

“I thought all 9 girls played well out there,” Albemarle coach Rich Lindsay said. “Certainly when you can get two seniors, three juniors and four freshmen contributing in a match…that balance is good.”

The Patriots moved to 2-0 on the season with the win and will travel to Louisa on Tuesday.

Western girls tennis sweeps Louisa

With solid play up and down the ladder, including a show of depth as top singles player Maddy Ix didn’t play in doubles, Western’s girls tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over Louisa Monday afternoon.

“Our players played smart tennis today, making some nice adjustments to handle the gusty winds,” said Western coach Ellen Markowitz.

The Warriors are now 4-0 on the year.
