Spring Boys Roundup 4.28.15: Monticello baseball, Albemarle soccer, others snag wins

Monticello’s baseball team picked up some momentum Friday with a victory over Albemarle and the Mustangs kept it going Monday with a 9-2 win over Orange County.

Carter Lee handled the pitching duties with a complete game effort for the Mustangs, striking out six and walking none while allowing just one earned run.

The Mustangs’ offense exploded for all nine of their runs in the fourth and fifth, capitalizing on four errors by Orange in those two innings with the help of a fourth inning Ben Riley three-run home run. Riley went 2-for-3 on the night and finished with four RBI on the night. Monticello’s John Page went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Tre Dudley scored twice.

Kendall Bayless went 1-for-3 for the Hornets, with an RBI.

Albemarle soccer shuts out Fluvanna

Albemarle’s boys soccer team stayed unbeaten on the year with a solid 4-0 victory over Fluvanna Monday night.
Marcel Berry continued his scoring tear in 2015 with a pair of goals for the Patriots while Griffin Coffey and Jesus Duran scored a goal each.
Brendan Moyers, Andrew Weber, Robert Palma-Galeas and Coffey each had an assist.
Matthew Booth and Alex Grant combined for two saves in net for the Patriots.
Albemarle (8-0-1) will host Charlottesville Thursday at 7 p.m. The Black Knights tied the Patriots in their last meeting.
Albemarle boys lacrosse sprints past Osbourn Park
It doesn’t get much more balanced than Albemarle boys lacrosse’s offense Monday night.
While Andrew Hogg rang up a hat trick in the Patriots’ 12-7 victory over Osbourn Park, four other Patriots picked up the bulk of the scoring in the win with two goals apiece. Ian Davis, Quinn Garland, Cameron Green and Justin Moran scored two goals each.
Garrett Smith also scored once.
Davis, Moran and Justin Peck had an assist each.
Goalie Kyle Seago had 10 saves for Albemarle.
Kyle Guenther had three goals for Osbourn Park.

Albemarle’s boys tennis cruised past Monticello at home Monday, beating the Mustangs 9-0 which moved the Patriots to 8-1 on the season.
