Spring Boys Roundup 4.17.15: Albemarle soccer and tennis, Covenant baseball pick up wins

Albemarle’s boys soccer team stayed undefeated with a 5-1 victory over Orange County Thursday night.

Adonis Krasniqi, Andrew Weber, Eliya Budugure, Marcel Berry and Jesus Duran scored the Patriots’ five goals with Sergio Cardona-Fuentes setting the table on two of them with a pair of assists. Albemarle’s Alex Abramenko, Andrew Weber and Krasniqi also notched assists.

Alex Grant had two saves in goal.

Albemarle (6-0-1) next plays Monday at Powhatan.

Covenant baseball drops Seton

Covenant’s baseball team picked up a win over Seton Thursday, with Jake Haney powering the Eagles at the plate to a 6-3 victory.

Haney ripped a 3-run double to help spark Covenant.

Matt Sykes picked up the win on the mound while Haney earned the save while relieving Sykes who took over for Jared Soisson.

The Eagles play a pair of games Saturday, the first at 1 p.m. against Charlottesville and then against Highland at 7 p.m.

Hargrave baseball rallies past Fork Union

Fork Union’s baseball team was in good position to close the door Thursday against Hargrave, but the Tigers roared back for a 12-11 victory with a five-run sixth inning.

Zach Ruffin, Darrell Smith and Brad Markiewicz each posted two RBI and a double for Hargrave, with Ruffin going 2-for-2,  Smith 2-for-3 and Markiewicz 2-for-4.

Logan Baker and Riggs Jordan split the pitching duties with Jordan earning the win.

For Fork Union, Brent Lowry went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, Grant Bodison went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI and Zach Pace went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Adam Hackenberg hit a double and strole two bases.

The Blue Devils take on St. Christopher’s Friday at 4:30 on the road.

Albemarle tennis beats Orange

Orange County’s Nathan Horner won at No. 1 singles, but that was all the damage the Hornets could do against Albemarle’s boys tennis team as the Patriots picked up an 8-1 victory Thursday to move to 5-1.
