Spring Boys Roundup 4.1.15: Albemarle baseball and tennis, STAB baseball grab wins

A week ago, after beating Collegiate, St. Anne’s-Belfield coach Alan Swanson knew his team’s early season woes could be easily fixed.

“We just need to start hitting,” Swanson said.

Now the Saints are hitting. STAB’s offense broke out of its funk with 11 hits against Woodberry Forest Tuesday night with an 11-1 road win over Woodberry Forest.

Bobby Nicholson led that charge with a 3-for-4 night that included a pair of RBI. Jake Allen finished with two RBI too and scored a pair of runs. Jalen Harrison and Danny Benner also had multi-hit outings with two hits each and they each posted an RBI.

Nicholson handled the bulk of the duties on the mound with five innings where he gave up just the single earned run and scattered four hits without walking anyone.

Woodberry freshman Cameron Hill finished 2-for-3 with a pair of hits, including a double.

The Tigers and Saints will lock up again Friday.

Albemarle baseball run-rules Charlottesville

Albemarle’s baseball team bounced back from a tough loss to Harrisonburg Monday night with an 11-1 victory over Charlottesville Tuesday.

The Patriots ended the game in five innings, leaning on James Aker to handle the duties on the mound, where he threw a five-inning complete game and surrendered just two hits to the Black Knights.

DG Archer and Tanner Wood both had two hits for Albemarle while sophomore Aaron Leathers had his first career varsity hit.
