Western Albemarle’s baseball team made short work of Eastern View Wednesday night, rolling 11-3 past the Cyclones powered by a 4-0 first inning spurt.
The victory gave long-time Western Albemarle coach Skip Hudgins his 400th career victory, accumulated over a 32-year stint leading the Warriors. The victory seems to have placed him as high as fifth all-time in the VHSL’s career coaching victories. Former J.I. Burton coach Mack Shupe is the record holder with 631 wins.
Dylan Weiss got that first quarter push started with a single up the middle in the first inning, but it was Henry Kreienbaum who did the heavy lifting with three hits and six RBIs including a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning.
Derek Domecq scored three times and recorded a pair of hits while Chris Hughes finished with two RBI and Josh Casteen and Ryan Sukovich also knocked in a run each.
Sam Hearn and Domecq combined for a five-inning one-hitter, with Hearn throwing the first four innings without giving up a hit despite Eastern View scoring twice.
Western will enjoy a few days off before battling Louisa County Monday on the road at 6 p.m.
