Salem girls lacrosse beats Western

Western Albemarle’s girls lacrosse team got off to a rocky start Thursday in an out-of-division clash with Salem and couldn’t dig out of that early hole, falling 10-6 to the Spartans.

Western trailed 7-3 at the break and couldn’t scrap back out despite a five-point effort from Faris Wallenborn as she notched two goals and a trio of assists.

Salem spread the ball well, particularly in the early going, with Jordan Hayes posting a hat trick while Morgan Leeson, Hannah Giorno and Nicole Quinn each finished with two goals. Salem keeper Emma Blair came up with nine saves against the Warriors.

Western got goals from Julia Wood, Ellie Allen and Sammie Magargee in the contest.

The Warriors will try and bounce back Wednesday against Annandale at home at 5 p.m.
