Powhatan wins title at JD wrestling champs

Powhatan picked up a Jefferson District team wrestling title for the second year in a row, picking up huge wins in the upper weight classes to secure the title.

Louisa made a strong run at the Indians as the Lions took second with 182 total points to Powhatan’s 214.5-point total. Louisa got individual titles from Jeff Sisk at 106 pounds, Richard Gallegos at 126, Jordan Spotswood at 145 and Gavin Tingen at 152. Dalton Marsh, Brian Comploier and James Cusick advanced to the finals for Louisa.

Fluvanna County took third place with just one title winner at 120 pounds as the Flucos’ Justin Zimmerman with an 18-2 technical fall win over Marsh. Logan Zimmerman, Dalton Wensel, Quincy Martin and Raejion White all advanced to the finals for Fluvanna County to bolster the team effort.

The other individual champions were Western’s Andrew Dickerson at 113 and the Warriors’ Gabriel Rody-Ramazani at 132, Monticello’s Ryan Brown at 138, Powhatan’s Kalsim Parker at 160, Powhatan’s Jake Tomlinson at 170, Powhatan’s Thomas Smith at 182, Powhatan’s Noah Green at 195, Monticello’s Daniel Alonzo at 220 and Powhatan’s David Roush at 285.

Smith and Tingen earned co-wrestler of the year honors. Tingen pinned all three of his opponents to wrap up his title.
