The Jefferson District golf championship may not determine who moves on to the postseason, but it’s far from meaningless. It can’t be meaningless with great competition, a district title on the line and a chance to tuneup before the conference tournaments next week.
Powhatan wrapped up the JD tournament title Monday at The Greens at Tanyard, winning with a score of 302 to out pace second place Western Albemarle’s 315.
Charlottesville clawed into third place with a 322 while Monticello took fourth with a 325.
The Indians finished at the top of the regular season standings too, with Charlottesville taking second and Western grabbing third.
Powhatan’s Luke Hill won the individual title Tuesday with an even par round of 72, edging his teammate Nick Furbee’s 73.
Hunter Weis and Kyle Landis of Western Albemarle tied for third with a pair of 74s, and Robert Deane rounded out the top five with a 75.
The All-Jefferson District awards were also handed out Monday with, Weis, Landis, Hill, Furbee and Deane all earning honors along with Phillip Hoffman of Charlottesville, who carded a 78 at Tanyard.
Other team leaders were Dylon Garrett’s 88 for Fluvanna, Austin Yoon’s 76 for Albemarle, Thad Probst’s 75 for Charlottesville, Joey Vipperman’s 81 for Louisa and Ryan Dodson and Isaiah Boucher’s pair of 82s for Orange.
The JD squads will break into their conference tournaments next week with Powhatan in Division 4A’s Conference 19, Louisa, Fluvanna and Charlottesville in Division 4A’s Conference 23, Albemarle and Orange in Division 5A’s Conference 16 and Western Albemarle and Monticello playing in Division 3A’s Conference 29.
Those tournaments will determine postseason advancement.
