Western Albemarle’s Christian Pierce reached a milestone Thursday night and the Warriors took care of business against Monticello in a hard-fought contest.
Pierce scored his 1,000th point of his impressive career in the second quarter of Western’s 49-44 victory over the Mustangs, one of just six players in school history to complete the feat. Pierce finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds while running mate Dante Crawford also posted a double double with 11 points and 11 boards.
Sophomore Travis Hester did the most damage though with 16 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Paul Harper led Monticello with 11 while Kevin Archer knocked home nine points.
Western faces Orange and Fluvanna next week in critical Jefferson District battles.
