Perez sets new assists mark, Monticello volleyball sweeps CHS

A pack of setters who have set new assists marks for local schools have come through the volleyball scene in the last few years, from Riley Martin at Western to Jessica Block at Albemarle and last year Bailey Colvin at Madison County.

 

Add Monticello’s Allie Perez to the list.

 

Perez set a new Monticello volleyball career assists record Thursday night during the Mustangs’ 3-0 sweep of Charlottesville High, ringing up 21 assists to total 1,635 on her career.

 

Monticello cruised in the win 25-17, 25-9 and 25-13,, with Perez and Alexandra Blaine each finishing with five aces. Zimako Chuks led the attack with seven kills and also finished with five blocks. Mariah Brown notched five kills and Hannah Green had four kills and three blocks while Amaya Gibson had seven digs.

 

The Mustangs, who evened their record at 3-3 with the victory, will host Powhatan Monday night. The Black Knights (1-7) will take on Albemarle the same night on the road.
