Payne’s overtime goal lifts Louisa boys past Orange

An exciting, unpredictable Jefferson District boys soccer season continued Thursday night when Louisa County’s resurgent squad knocked off Orange County in overtime 3-2.

Elijiah Payne slotted the winning goal in the second overtime period to lift Louisa to the win.

The Lions forced overtime on the strength of a pair of Jorge Guiterrez-Reyes goals while both Hornets’ scores came off the foot of Danny Goodsell.

Austin Horner  and Joshua Pugh assisted on the Hornets two goals.

Orange and Louisa are locked in a logjam among the top squads in the Jefferson District, a clash that includes Fluvanna County, Western Albemarle and William Monroe. All five are separated by just a couple of games going into the final few games of the regular season.

Orange (8-3-1, 6-3-1 JD) clashes with Charlottesville in a makeup game. Louisa locks up with the Black Knights on Monday night.
